Meaning
The representation-family slot records the permitted state and representation realizations without prematurely choosing one.
A representation turns an abstract observable algebra into operators on a carrier. The finite package retains a typed family of admissible state/representation choices, their statuses, and the comparisons needed between them. Distinct strict, twisted, or sectional branches remain distinct until a theorem identifies them.
Example (illustrative)
Two states on an algebra may yield different GNS representations. The slot keeps both proposed realizations and the conditions under which each is admitted, rather than treating the word “vacuum” as a choice of one common Hilbert space.
Scope and limits
Recording a representation family does not prove that its members are equivalent or that there is a unique preferred representation.
