Statement

A cover has recognition if for every member of the cover implies for global tight realizations.

Meaning and scope

Recognition is the uniqueness part of descent. Existence of an amalgam is a separate requirement.

Example

In the plain coordinate quotient model the demanded coordinates determine the tight quotient. Additional structure invisible on all local restrictions would require a separate recognition check.
